Women and War Conference in Erbil, Iraq

On October 1st and 2nd, three members of the Theme “Gender and Conflict” (Rola El-Husseini, Eleni Karageorgiou and Per-Olof Östergren) participated in a conference titled “Women and War” in Erbil, Iraq. The conference was organised by Al-Kitab University –a local private university– in collaboration with the Center for Middle East Studies at Lund University.  Rola El-Husseini, the co-chairperson of the conference gave a welcome speech,  Per-Olof Östrgren gave one of the two keynote addresses; his talk was titled “Gender, Violence and Conflict from a Health Perspective”, and Eleni Karageorgiou participated in an English-Language panel. Her talk was titled “Women Fleeing Conflict: the legal challenges of Seeking and Enjoying Asylum in the West.”
